NAVIGATING MENTAL HEALTH & SUBSTANCE USE SERVICES
Healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every person has their unique path and pace, and we honor each. Through Help Right Here, a vast network of local mental health and substance use services exists to meet a wide range of needs. But finding the right support for you can feel overwhelming – we’re here to help you understand what’s available, so you can move forward with confidence.
Therapy & Counseling
Licensed therapists and counselors offer one-on-one, group, or family sessions to help individuals manage mental health challenges, process trauma, or navigate substance use recovery. There are many different approaches to therapy; some you might see in our local network include:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: focuses on changing negative thought patterns and behaviors to improve emotional well-being.
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy: teaches coping and relationship skills to help people who struggle with intense emotions, self-harm, or suicidal thoughts.
- Trauma Therapy: helps people heal from painful past experiences, often using approaches like Prolonged Exposure Therapy or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to process and reduce the emotional impact of traumatic memories.
- Intensive Outpatient Therapy: a structured program where you live at home but attend therapy sessions several days a week for a few hours each day to get extra support.
Psychiatric Care & Medication Management
A psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses, and manages mental health conditions. A key part of this care is medication management – prescribing and monitoring medications to help manage symptoms. Psychiatric care often works together with therapy to create a comprehensive treatment plan that fits your needs.
Crisis & Helplines
Confidential, 24/7 phone or text lines connect individuals experiencing emotional distress or thoughts of self-harm with trained crisis counselors who can provide immediate support and guidance. These helplines are often the first step for those in urgent need or unsure where to turn.
Peer Support Specialists
Certified individuals who have experienced mental health or substance use recovery offer mentorship, encouragement, and practical support, helping others feel understood and less alone in their journey.
Group Meetings & Support Groups
Peer-led or professionally facilitated groups offer a supportive, judgment-free space to share experiences, learn new coping strategies, and connect with others facing similar challenges. Common formats include 12-step programs, substance use recovery and relapse prevention groups, and mental health support circles.
Residential Treatment & Recovery Programs
Structured, live-in programs provide intensive, long-term care for individuals working toward recovery. These programs often include detox services, therapy, life skills training, and peer support, all within a safe and stable environment.
Medically Supervised Detox & Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Medically supervised detox provides safe, monitored care to manage withdrawal symptoms when clearing substances from the body – an important first step for many. Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medications alongside counseling to ease cravings and support lasting recovery.
