Mental health and substance use challenges touch lives across our community. Almost everyone knows someone who’s struggled – or has struggled themselves. Yet getting help can feel confusing, overwhelming, or out of reach. Help Right Here is committed to changing that.

By connecting the New Hanover County community to a trusted network of more than 65 local care providers and community partners, we’re making sure help for mental health and substance use disorders is simple to find, easy to understand, and tailored to support sustainable health and well-being.

Simplifying access to care

Help Right Here connects the New Hanover County community to resources and reduces barriers to care, so more people can get the right help when and where they need it. And if challenges like food, housing, or finances stand in the way, you’ll find resources for those, too.

In 2024, New Hanover County had 71 opioid-related deaths and 425 nonfatal overdoses.

How this started

Help Right Here stems from New Hanover County’s Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Strategic Plan, supported by national opioid settlement funds supplemented by the county’s Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Fund.
